Cafes in Centre Place

Melbourne prides itself as a world heartland of great coffee and great fresh varied food served in the cafes of the European-style lanes. There are enough coffee shops  in the CBD to have a coffee at a different cafe every day of the year. We pass by over 20 cafes in our Lanes Tour and can point out the best ones.
Personally I can’t go past Pellegrini’s Express Bar 66 Bourke Street,(03) 9662 1885, an Italian family business since the 1950s with perhaps the oldest coffee machine in Melbourne plus great pasta.  You are drinking and eating history. Even the sign is heritage listed.

Urbanspoon is our recommended internet source of information about coffee shops, restaurants and cafes as the reviewers are the people of Melbourne who use the cafes. ‘The Age Cheap Eats 2013′ is a useful book. Useful Apps are ‘AGE Good Cafe GuideApp and  ‘The Melbourne Coffee Review’ App. See also ‘Melbourne’s Bars and Pubs’ by Palmer Higgs.
